Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) for Multiplication with a Bridge to Division
Created for students age 10+ who:
- Have completed at least one year of multiplication fact coursework without mastery
- Rely on finger counting, skip counting, or tally marks to find the answer
- Have mastered their addition facts but struggle to recall basic multiplication facts
- Experience difficulty with multi-digit multiplication problems
- Need more effective strategies to increase fact fluency
AIM for Addition and Subtraction:
- Mathematical strategies that build number sense
- Specific mathematical strategy for each set of facts based on a process rather than a trick or skip counting
- “Key” facts and “Companion” facts (application of Commutative Property)
- Methods for fading from use of manipulatives
- An optional section highlighting the relationship between multiplication and division
